In today’s competitive world, the key to success for new designs is to obtain a high quality part at a cost effective price. The cycle time to Develop, Manufacture and Deliver (i.e., DMD) needs to be minimized to achieve the goals set forth in taking the product to market.
Since 1989, Innovative Design Products, Inc. (IDP) has provided a global center of Design, Manufacture and Delivery to achieve our customer’s goals. IDP has extensive experience in DMD in the markets of Consumer Electronics, Industrial Electronics, Electronic Toys and Games, House Hold Products and Medical Products.
At IDP, we utilize various methods in obtaining the goals of our customer. Flexibility is essential while designing a product for manufacturability. The two methods are:
Option A: The customer provides a complete design to IDP, where we then review the concept, specifications, manufacturing capabilities required and packaging. IDP will use our expertise in designing, strong global sourcing, off-shore manufacturing and logistics to obtain the cost targets required.
Option B: Many times entrepreneurs and OEM’ have a concept but have limited resources to develop the product. IDP will use our 5 Phase approach to complete the DMD cycle. With close communication with the customer’s engineering, marketing and purchasing, IDP will accomplish the tasks, and allow the customer to launch the product to market in a timely manner.
Through a Team effort with the customer, the end product’s specifications are reviewed. The areas that are researched are aesthetics, ergonomics, environment, safety, special features required and cost. From this information, our industrial designers will create various 2D drawings to present to the customer for review. The customer will select a version that best fits their needs.
IDP will use state-of-the-art software to develop 3D models from the selected 2D concept. This will allow the customer to provide detail information to their internal Team, as well as allow quick prototyping (i.e., SLA) to be manufactured for further evaluation.
Using our engineering expertise, IDP will complete the mechanical, electrical, software programming, as well as graphic design capabilities for the final packaging of the product.
IDP will utilize our self-contained centers to produce the necessary tooling, fixtures and purchase the materials required. Prototypes will be supplied through various stages of the launch to allow the customer to approve the design, as well as the final product. Once approved, production begins using strict quality control systems throughout all stages of the process to provide the consistent high quality required. If special approvals are required such as ASTM, UL, CSA, CE and FCC, IDP will lead the path in accomplishing this task for the customer.
Logistics is vital to the completion of the process. At IDP, we have extensive experience in shipping globally from China to the customer’s final destination.
